Convicer & Percy, LLP concentrates in federal and state tax practice, and is focused on Tax Planning and the Representation of clients before federal and state taxing authorities.

 

Richard G. Convicer

            Richard G. Convicer concentrates his practice in tax planning for businesses and individuals, and in representing clients in tax disputes before the Internal Revenue Service and the State of Connecticut Department of Revenue Services. 

 

            Attorney Convicer has several specific areas of expertise.  Tax planning for businesses encompasses business entity planning, business succession planning, and estate planning for business owners.  Business entity planning is the selection of the form of doing business - corporation, partnership, or limited liability company.  Attorney Convicer is a leading authority on limited liability companies.  He chaired the Subcommittee of the Connecticut Bar Association which authored and monitored passage of the Connecticut Limited Liability Company Act.  He is the co-author of Connecticut Limited Liability Companies: Forms and Practice Manual, the textbook for Connecticut lawyers and accountants regarding the LLC structure.  In addition, Attorney Convicer has lectured throughout the State of Connecticut on all issues involving limited liability companies.  He serves as chair of the LLC Subcommittee of the Tax Section of the Connecticut Bar Association.

 

            Tax planning and representation for individuals includes estate planning, Medicaid planning, and probate administration.  Attorney Convicer prepares estate plans which encompass many technical and practical issues, such as ensuring estate liquidity, allocating generation skipping transfer tax exemptions, leveraging the effective use of Crummey powers, maximizing valuation discounts, and providing for supplemental needs trusts and support trusts in testamentary plans.  In addition to standard pour-over trusts and insurance trusts, Attorney Convicer has created qualified personal residence trusts and charitable remainder trusts.  He has also used disclaimers to utilize GST exemptions and lower tax brackets. 

 

            Attorney Convicer received his Juris Doctor degree with honors from Boston College Law School.  He earned his Masters of Law in Taxation degree from New York University School of Law.  Attorney Convicer is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and is a Connecticut Super Lawyer.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), a professional organization whose membership is limited to attorneys who have demonstrated expertise in probate, trust, and estate planning law.  He is a member of the Civil and Criminal Tax Penalties Committee of the American Bar Association.  He is a member of theExecutive Committee of the Tax Section of the Connecticut Bar Association.  He is a frequent speaker before attorneys, accountants, and other business and professional groups.

Robert J. Percy

          Attorney Percy has extensive experience counseling both private and public sector clients with respect to retirement and pension issues.  Mr. Percy has developed numerous retirement and section 125 cafeteria plans and counseled numerous clients on qualified domestic relations orders.  In addition he has handled extensive litigation, both civil and criminal, before the United States Tax Court, The United States District Court, the Connecticut Superior Court, the Connecticut Appellate Court and the Connecticut Supreme Court.

          Attorney Percy is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, where he is on the Tax Section Executive Committee, and the American Bar Association.  Attorney Percy is named in The Best Lawyers in America and is a Connecticut Super Lawyer.

          Attorney Percy received his B.M.E. from Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute and his law degree from the University of Connecticut.  Before entering private practice Attorney Percy had extensive experience as a litigator for the Chief Counsel’s Office of the IRS in Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Connecticut from 1973 to 1986.

Eric L. Green

          The focus of Attorney Eric L. Green’s practice is taxpayer representation before the IRS and Connecticut Department of Revenue Services, as well as handling probate matters and probate litigation, estate planning for individuals and business owners and tax planning for closely held businesses.   He is a frequent lecturer on tax topics, including Medicaid Planning, Estate Planning, and handling tax audits and tax controversies.  Mr. Green has also been quoted in USA Today, CreditCard.com, Consumer Reports Financial News and The New York Times on IRS and estate planning matters, and has been published in The National Underwriter and Connecticut CPA Magazine

         Attorney Green is adjunct faculty at the University of Connecticut School of Law where he teaches law students to handle taxpayer representation matters in the low income taxpayer clinic.

         Attorney Green is also a Certified Internal Auditor, and prior to practicing law, served as a senior tax consultant for national and international accounting firms, including KPMG and Deloitte & Touche.

        Attorney Green's commitment to professional excellence is demonstrated by his involvement in numerous professional organizations. He is a vice-chair of the American Bar Association’s Closely Held Businesses Committee, and in the past has served as the chairman of the subcommittees on Business Succession Planning and Estate Planning.  Attorney Green is a member of the Executive Committee of the Tax Section and is a Member of the Estate & Probate Sections of the Connecticut Bar Association.   

      Attorney Green is admitted to practice in Connecticut and Massachusetts and is a member of the United States Tax Court Bar.  Attorney Green is also a member of the Connecticut and Massachusetts Bar Associations, as well as the American Bar Association.  Attorney Green received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting with a minor in International Business from Hofstra University and is an honors graduate from New England School of Law.  He earned a Masters of Laws in Taxation from Boston University School of Law.
